We are "Approaching Spiritual Death"

War in Gaza, War in Iraq, escalating war in Afghanistan, civil war over material for western society funded by us in the Congo, War in Colombia funded by our need for drugs and our government wanting to fight drugs. On the birthday of King, I want his day to be a day on. As such we need a reminder that Western Society is approaching spiritual death as we continue to fund our own destruction. As our people are suffering, hunger increasing, health fracturing, our government is spending more than ever on purveying violence. Not just with spending directly on military spending, our cell phones are funding the current longest civil war in Congo; every time a westerner gets engaged that diamond ring has funded another child soldier or just a regular civil war; our drug habits fund the war in Colombia, our Starbucks, Folgers; and corporate coffee decreased the cost of coffee so much Colombian farmers would rather risk destruction to grow those drugs. And our disinterest and continued financial support for both sides has allowed the Israel-Palestine conflict to linger and now be exploited by the war makers in both countries as well as the larger Arab world, to strengthen their power and line their pockets. Every time developed world's guns are being used in the Israel-Palestine conflict a despotic or right wing government gains strength. Dr. King's demand was that we not acquiesce, we not be silent. We must work, strive, even sacrifice for the sacred cause of peace making. It is more than just our material world, our soul is at stake. The full speach RSS
