It is easy to say that Saturday Night Live is not very good. But I am going to say that it was never really that good. Yes it has had its hey day and have had very talented comedians move in and out. But judged by the standards of the sketch comedy that my generation grew up with, most of SNL is just sub par. Yeah it had and has its funny moments, but can we say it really has made you laugh as hard as The Upright Citizen's Brigade or The Kids in the Hall?Has it been as simply brilliant as "Snake Boy" from The State on SNL?
It started when I started on this earth, You Can't Do that on Television premiered on Nickelodeon in 1981. The sketch comedy show geared toward teens was groundbreaking in its silliness but innovation.Later Nickelodeon had the show All That, that ironically spawned the career of Kenan Thompson who hopefully has not been killed by SNL. All That had everything, silliness to the days politics with Ross Perot.
These are all sketch comedy shows that have better writing and better acting then SNL has, its a shame those have all been canceled and SNL in its mediocrity continues.
