"Black Liberal Guilt," If only we could look down on White Liberals the Way White Liberals Look Down on Us

Like many segments on the Daily Show this was a silly exchange with a real point. I have to admit I experience this one very personally. The reason so many Black people are often fed up and disgusted by Upper Middle Class and Rich White liberals is the condescending nature that they deal with people of color indeed everyone. The irony of conservatives is that they are totally right about this. Especially when conservatives point it out in how Yuppies deal with the poor and people of color. (of course because someone treats you bad doesn't mean you should join the group that wants to enslave you, that is just stupid) But it is this attitude that is the reason my mother is a Republican and hates liberals. (She is wrong to lump people in but boy do I understand the frustration) It is the attitude that while our President can be Black by in large people of color can only speak to people of color. It is the idea that thee concerns of People of color are the same as all Yuppies. That Yuppies are the only people who can communicate to and about themselves. Yet Yuppies believe they know best, can fix the problems in other peoples communities, and speak to them and for them. It is a condescension that a yuppie way is the only way. And it is at its heart a belief that you are worthy only if you look, feel, and sound like a yuppie. Normally I find these Daily Show segments a little suspect, but this one was right on. And should be required viewing for the Upper Middle Class and Rich Yuppie. RSS
