Happy Constitution Day: Do You Support the Constitution?
221 years ago the constitution was signed by 39 constitution delegates creating the piece of paper that has guided this great nation ever since. While it was an imperfect document (not allowing our sisters to vote, nor me to be a citizen) its principles and guidance have been a beacon for which we should all continue to (strive, try to reach). What makes this country so great is that we always improving upon the last generation, willing to rectify their mistakes and move us all closer to fulfilling the values espoused by the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. That is what is so distressing about the Bush and even more the Cheney administration. Their complete hatred for the values this country was founded on. Promise over fear, freedom over security, government of the people not government against the people. What could be more agregious then the idea that you can just lock someone up and throw away the key without someone getting to say if that was right or not. Or the idea that the government is listening in on your calls, reading your emails, and searching your house because you might have said the wrong thing or not agreed with the party in power. Or that the Vice-President is it's own office not in the 3 branches of government. I have to ask why does the Bush/Cheney Administration and their enablers hate the constitution so much? Well people are standing up to say: I'm A Constitution Voter ![]() Are you? It means that you are voting to support the first amendment, the support of a freedom of speech protected regardless of whether you agree with it or not and real press free from suppression and corporate greed. That you believe in BALANCE of power for the branches of government. That you can't just arrest someone throw away the key and never give them the right to challenge their detention in a fair and meaningful way. Torturing someone is a violation of the Geneva Convention and US Law. And listening to, reading, and going into peoples homes is illegal without proper oversight by the other branches of government. That is why I love the constitution. How about you? Labels: ACLU, constitution, constitution day, constitution voter, Free Press, support bill of rights, The Media |
