The NAFTA Debate

It’s sort of disappointing to have Obama and Hillary falling over themselves to demagogue NAFTA.

I am going to say something I am not supposed to as a Progressive Labor supporting Democrat.

NAFTA IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

Clinton’s support for the preferential trade deal with China, and her push to include them in the WTO is the real trade deal is destroying the American economy. Not to demagogue China or fair trade, but NO POLICY that allows a free for all is a good idea. We should have pushed for targeted trade with China based on their actions to ease human rights abuses and free Tibet. At the same time we should have acted to protect American workers by closing corporate loopholes that GIVE MONEY TO THOSE GOING ABROAD.

Ross Perot was right - the sucking sound you hear is American Jobs, but they only took a short stop in Mexico. They are all in China and India now. That is the reason so many Mexicans are risking their lives coming to America, because they have no real jobs either.

The manufacturing jobs are what's left, and they are being done by children and Chinese workers at pay below the minimum wage the Chinese themselves set.

Reorganizing NAFTA will do little to bring back those jobs.
