Remember when Republicans stood for smaller government and better government?
I mean let’s be honest they only pretended to stand for that, what they clearly really stand for is power and personal enrichment. They want to help their constituents the RIDICULOUSLY WEALTHY and themselves become even richer at the expense of the middle class.
Former Majority Leader Tom Delay:
What is amazing about Tom Delay, is that he was able to break THE ONLY Texas election money law. There only thing you can’t do in Texas is get money from corporations. THAT’S IT the only regulation. AND HE BROKE IT.
And yet they continue to put Delay on TV I have to ask the news media… WHY? They even interviewed him n the Today Show about ethics violations, was that some sort of joke?
A Texas grand jury indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) yesterday on a charge of criminally conspiring with two political associates to inject illegal corporate contributions into 2002 state elections that helped the Republican Party reorder the congressional map in Texas and cement its control of the House in Washington.
The indictment specifically alleges that DeLay, who helped organize the Texas political committee at the heart of the charge, participated in a conspiracy to funnel corporate money into the 2002 state election "with the intent that a felony be committed."
Using corporate funds for state election purposes has long been illegal in Texas…
The facts of one of the central transactions at issue in the case have never been in dispute -- the transfer in September 2002 to an arm of the Republican National Committee in Washington of $190,000 in corporate funds collected by the committee in Texas and the subsequent donation by the RNC arm of $190,000 to seven Texas House candidates on Oct. 4, 2002.
Former Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH):
Ney basically traded a bill for money. That’s Republicans today no core values just how can it make me rich
Rep. Robert W. Ney (R-Ohio) …admitted performing official acts for lobbyists in exchange for campaign contributions, expensive meals, luxury travel and skybox sports tickets. Ney also admitted taking thousands of dollars in gambling chips from an international businessman who sought his help with the State Department.
Ney is the eighth person convicted in the continuing federal investigation into Abramoff's activities.
…Ney, for his part, sought to insert four amendments into a 2002 election overhaul bill to benefit Abramoff's clients. He also admitted helping another client win a multimillion-dollar contract to provide wireless communication services to the U.S. Capitol.
The congressman admitted that he twice inserted comments in the Congressional Record aimed at bolstering a bid by Abramoff to buy a casino cruise line in Florida in 2000.
Rep. John T. Doolittle (R-Calif.)
He isn’t in jail yet… but he sure as hell should be.
Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) is one of four congressmen whom the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal have both named as being investigated for their ties to Jack Abramoff. Doolittle and Abramoff are accused of trading favors by using Doolittle’s wife as an intermediary.
Doolittle, a Mormon and "ardent opponent of casino gambling," was "particularly close to Abramoff," according to former Abramoff associates. Doolittle himself has admitted this.
Doolittle, among 26 other lawmakers, wrote a letter (2/27/02) to Interior Secretary Gale Norton urging her to prevent a Louisiana Indian tribe from opening a casino. Two of Abramoff's tribal clients in neighboring areas did not want the casino open, and Abramoff was lobbying to stop it.
In 2003, Doolittle wrote Interior Secretary Gale Norton again, this time acting on behalf of two tribes seeking to build casinos.
Abramoff hired Doolittle's wife's firm to put on a fundraising event for his "charity," the Capital Athletic Foundation. Her firm was also hired by Ed Buckham's Alexander Strategy Group (ASG).
Dating back to 1999, Doolittle's campaigns and associated committees have received $140,000 total from Abramoff, his lobbying associates, and his clients.
Doolittle held a fundraiser at Abramoff's skybox at the MCI Center and failed to report it. He also used Abramoff's restaurant, Signatures, for fundraising events.
Former Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA)
I was really sad about Duke Cunningham because he served this country so honorably. He is a decorated aviator. That is why it is so disappointing he sold out his countries interest for financial gain.
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham said Monday he is resigning from Congress after pleading guilty to taking more than $2 million in bribes in a criminal conspiracy involving at least three defense contractors.
Cunningham's plea agreement with federal prosecutors stemmed from an investigation of the 2003 sale of his California home to a defense contractor for an inflated price.
Under the agreement, Cunningham acknowledged a conspiracy to commit bribery, mail and wire fraud and tax evasion. He also pleaded guilty to a separate tax evasion violation for failing to disclose income in 2004.
Prosecutors said Cunningham had taken bribes from contractors, which enabled him to buy a mansion, a suburban Washington condominium, a yacht and a Rolls Royce.
