My Political Ad

So I was thinking today, and I know what my political ad will look like when I runf or office, what do you think of this:

Fade to Jordan walking by corn fields, "Hi I'm Jordan Berg and I approve this ad [you have to say that now according the the new Campaign Finance Law... its kinda funny] because to often the media and politicians want to make everything political, but what happened to an honest discussion with out the labels. Issues are more complex than either for or against. My opponent is a good person, but we have real issues that are more complex than yes and no and we have real policy differences that WILL affect your life. So if you want someone that will always put our community first, vote Jordan Berg, No politics, No Bull." And that is my slogan, No Politics, No Bull.

Me the Hypocrite

So I realized something while I was walking through Georgetown. One of the hypocritical things about me is that I hate consumerism culture that is so prevelant and obnoxious while walking through the georgetown, but I collect stuff. I collect movies, CD's, and books etc. I am cancer sign so I am a horder (plus being an only child helps) but none the less, I like stuff to... maybe it is not the acutally buying of stuff that bothers me, I think it is the lack of caring or concern for the poverty around the mindlessness of it... but either way it is hypocritical of me.

March For Women's Lives

I thought about what to say about the March, how much fun spending day with Roommie; Marching with the Deaniacs and bringing back all those wonderful memories of the great things Dean did... (didn't see any Kerry delegation) I thought about speaking personally about how I see the affect of loss of reproductive funding in Africa. How it affect my mother, female friends and possible daughter...

But instead I will let the picture say it all...

March For Women's Lives

This is when it rained yesterday

Thank you to the woman who ear white shirts and especially white pants. Your lack of preparation for the rain and clear need for male or female (as orientation dictates) affirmation gave me a "special gift" in these personally sexually frustrating times.

March for Women's Lives THIS SUNDAY

PS. Parents who put children in midriffs and white pants, especially girls... WRONG... JUST PLAIN WRONG... Did you go to the R. Kelly school of Parenting?

Happy Earth Day

I have nothing witty to say about Earth Day so I will just let the American Progress Report Blast the Bush Administration:

"EARTH DAY
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE STUPID THING CONSERVATIVES HAVE SAID:

HERITAGE PRESIDENT – CARS HAVE CLEARED OUR AIR: Think you are not getting the straight story from the left? Just want the straight facts about the environment? Here's what you'll get from the right: Edwin J. Feulner, President of the Heritage Foundation, in a piece cleverly entitled "Down to Earth Day," comes to the stunning conclusion that cars "helped...clear our air." Feulner chides his readers "not [to] forget what autos replaced: horses." If not for cars, our streets would be "filled with manure." Also, "horses required tons of hay, which meant thousands of acres of farmland were needed to grow food for animal use, not human consumption." Another benefit: "cars enabled people to move out of crowded cities into suburbs where they are in closer contact with nature."

Today is Earth Day and millions of Americans will celebrate by doing something to improve the environment – cleaning up trash in a local park, planting a tree, or making their home more energy efficient. Meanwhile, the Bush administration will celebrate Earth Day by inviting oil-industry officials to the Environmental Protection Agency to discuss a plan to relax pollution standards for gasoline. The plan would allow higher sulfur content gasoline to be sold during the summer months. According to Frank O'Donnell of Clean Air Trust "because sulfur is a prime contributor to both urban smog and soot, it could also result in an increase in health problems." That is a large price to pay for a plan that would only temporarily "trim oil prices by as much as a nickel a gallon" – and not necessarily in all markets.

EXEMPTING MILITARY & CONTRACTORS FROM ENVIRO LAWS: Also on the Earth Day agenda: the administration is pushing to exempt the Defense Department from "the Clean Air Act and from hazardous waste laws at thousands of firing and bombing ranges nationwide." If Congress grants the exemption, "state and federal authorities would be helpless to prevent more perchlorate contamination in Southern California drinking water" and other locations across the nation. The move would also make it harder to purify water supplies after they became contaminated because it would "make it more difficult for local governments to obtain reimbursements either from the Pentagon or local defense contractors." As a result, cash-strapped states would have to try to scrape together cash for cleanups.

Hick, or Just Male Testosterone

Just when you think I could not get stranger, I try to keep people on their toes.

I like trucks, not all trucks, but I am totally sucked in by trucks.

I am see a Ford Ranger Truck today for sale every day that I would love to get… And I think, am I loosing my mind? Is this the type of car for a black Jewish vegetarian north eastern college educated liberal? Do Deaniacs by Ford Rangers?

On top of that, I have a dream of having a Harley some day. That’s right as if I am not precariously close to Michael Jackson’s freakish flirtations with whitehood, I also some day want a big HOG (so not kosher friendly) and freaker biker helmet. Do you think it would fit on the dreadlocks?

Every Sunday I watch NASCAR, that’s right I WATCH NASCAR, and damit I love it. If you tell me a car number I can probably tell you the racer and possibly the team. I know about how the new points system will affect the cup series. I know that it is called Nextel now instead of Winston Cup Series. I even have favorite drivers and love the short tracks.

To top it all of I have this dream of fixing up an old 1968-69 Ford Mustang Convertible. But lets face it, it would probably be a rusting car sitting in the front of my house on the grass. A true mark of full hickhood.

Am I flirting with white trash hood? Did the close proximity and PA dutch running through the blood rear its ugly head? Or is my inner hick just finally coming out?

Maybe I am finally showing symptoms of a Y-chromosome.

I don’t know, but I am beginning to be scared.

Life

Disclaimer: Although this post does reflect my world view. It is not a cry for help, nor was it written in times of peril, this is a post that has been revised intellectually and on paper for weeks. This is NOT the finished product, so any comments would be helpful and appreciated.

Life is so so short, you blink, its gone... your kids will not know your great grandparents, not know their lives, who they were if they, were good people? You grandkids, won't know your grandparents, the people that were so important in shaping your life...

"History is what happens to people, it is not made by the majority of people."

That is probably one of the truest thing I have ever heard... Our lives will never be remembered... Even people of our age, actors, businessman, will be nothing more then fellow corpses in 50 years... Presidents, Kings all fall by the wayside as time moves on, only a handful with the staying power of more then 20 years…

You blink and life is over... It is so short and seemingly so not important, time just marches on while the majority of us are just victims of its endlessness.

We get caught up in so many non-important things, a friend's rebuff, a lover's miscalculations, a parents disingenuousness, knocking people over to be to work “on time,” getting mad when someone stands on the left of the escalators instead of moving… Me, you, we all have so many wrong priorities that are lost in the day to day of non-importance…

But maybe that is how we are intellectually able to deal with the meaninglessness of our existence. We assign importance to fashion, to popular culture, to money, to give meaning where there is none? Because intellectually we cannot truly answer for ourselves what more there is. Religion certainly is founded on that search.

The more I look onto the world and how we have shaped it, the more I wish we could all remember the larger picture of life…

Why hold that grudge? Why be angry so long? Is there really a harm that can be so awful as to mean our ire for the blink of our lives? What is important in our lives? How do we fill our shortening days?

My short existence has always seemed to tell me that love, as cliché as it sounds, is the only seeming purpose. But more than defined by a TV movie or an Adam Sandler movie, love is very obscure, obfuscated. The proverbial know it when we see it. It rightly loosely defines intimate relationships between lovers, forced genetic connections of family, the connection between man and nature or woman and fellow woman, even to define a relationship between an equally indefinable deity.

But even the mark of true love that is often left on the world, whether by great humans such as Jesus, Muhammad, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, millions of other nameless humans that have lived martyred lives as gifts to the world, have had little staying affect. Even these ultimate selfless acts of good and love have been perverted by time. Good parents have had terrible grandchildren, good people have loved to their fullest and still failed, religious leaders who live lives of service to deities have strayed and harmed their ideals. For all the ability of love, it has not been enough; had enough meaning, to give meaning.

The greatest gifts love have been asphyxiated by the quicksands of time.

In the totality of it all, it has to be asked not what is the meaning, but if there is meaning at all.

My Rounded Sister

My Rounded Sister

I know how you felt
The nervous and chilly expressions
The not so subtle edging in the seats toward the isle.
I myself get the same reaction.
I just wanted to say,
“Sit next to me my rounded sister”

We will revel together in not fitting on the seat
My shoulders covering part of your seat
You half way into the isle.
That is why we sit in the back anyway
Maybe it is a blessing,
We are always the last
To have a neighbor in our seat
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

But you stood
Not wanting to confront the unwelcome receptions.
The judgments, the self-reassuring selfish reactions
The total lack of compassion, of humanity.
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

Look at their expressions
Just because you are clutching the seat behind them
Inconveniencing them by making them move in
Because the isles were not made to fit our voluptuous frames
I will not judge you because you do not fit neatly in the rows
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

I know you can see it in their eyes too
Just because you do not have the starving Somali look
That so sadly is their ideal
They think it’s your fault
Your fault for inconveniencing them
For not eating less, For not exercising more
“Why don’t you just slim down?”
“Why do you have to use public transportation being SO big?”
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

I know that pain in your eyes,
I have felt it to.
Rejection for what you cannot control
But wish you could
You avoid eye contact looking down.
We are told it is our fault
You cannot hide the guilt
For which you have nothing to guilty about
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

But I know it is more complicated than that
I know how you struggle, how you eat less
How you are taught to hate yourself
When there is so much to love.
I know how inconsiderate they are, how selfish their thoughts
talking on those phones,
not caring about disturbing others on the transportation.
“Sit next to me my rounded sister”

Haven’t you noticed those bone protruding bodies taking 2 seats
Are also the same people letting us know their personal business
Talking into a small rectangular boxes?
So feel free to judge them as they do you
We can judge them together
“Sit next to me my rounded sister.”

So here’s to you my rounded sister
We are alike, rounded by G-d
Though colored differently
You are my sister
And hopefully next time there will be a fellow brother
Who will actually have the guts to say,
“Sit down here with me, my rounded sister.”

Is Our News Media Moving Back in History?

With this article on AOL today I had to pose that question

"Nation's Gun Lobby Creating News Company

By SHARON THEIMER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Rifle Association is creating a news corporation, starting an Internet talk show and preparing to buy a radio station to speak about candidates and gun rights at election time despite new political ad limits.

The 4 million-member gun lobby, looking for the same legal recognition as mainstream news organizations, says it has already hired its first reporter. NRANews.com was to start online broadcasts Friday."

I feel like I am back at the turn of the last century... Instead of moving our media to more unbiased reporting, our media is moving back to the days when newspapers were clear supporters of political parties and idealogies.

Conservatives with Fox, Conservative talk radio, liberal talk radio, magazines with clear slants and now this, the NRA telling it how it is?

Are we actually moving back in time away from demanding out media give us truthful balanced information to short blurbs of data confirming our already uninformed positions?

The Best of Craigslist

THIS IS SO FUNNY

"I was watching television the other day. The topic on this show, of which only a woman could possibly say, was “couples should explore mutual fantasies”. No such thing as mutual fantasies. Yours bore us and ours offend you.

Trust me ladies there is no fantasy where a handsome prince runs across a dewy meadow, takes you his arms, pledges his undying love for you…and then cums on your face. That would be a mutual fantasy."

"Social Drinkers Show Brain Damage, Study Finds"

"By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Heavy social drinkers show a pattern of brain damage similar to that seen in hospitalized alcoholics -- enough to impair day-to-day functioning, U.S. researchers said on Wednesday. "

HE HE FINALLY it explains all those "Young Professionals" in DC who drink all the time at bars and what not... They go on to work in our government... All along they are brain damaged any surprise?

Bush, walking case study?

Jesus - One of Many Death Penalty Victims

"Jesus - One of Many Death Penalty Victims" - Stolen from Away message

Thought it was appropriate for Easter

I really have to wonder how these conservative Christians pretend to be so concerned with the life of a mother yet are so pro-death for everything else. Carpet Bombing civilians... sure, State mandated death... were can Christian Texas line up... kill some mentally challenged individuals... aparently no one is above the wrath of your fellow man... allowing teenage mothers to starve and children to suffer... well at least they had the kid...

Could anything be more hypocritical and false then Christians voting republican?

A Message From G-d on this Easter

On this Easter, a little reminder of G-d's thoughts on the Passion

"Clearly Mel's new film has caused quite the controversy because of some supposedly anti-semitic themes. I don't know, I haven't seen the movie. BUT during the making of the film, the man who plays Jesus AND an assistant director were struck down by lightning a total of THREE times!? Coincidence?
I can hear the promos now:
"Come see the film that Ebert and God called 'Electrifying!'"

I Love Black Folk, But Sometimes I Have to Wonder What is Wrong W/ US

Artist: T.I. Lyrics

Song: Rubber Band Man Lyrics

(Ay, who i'm is?)
Rubber band man
Wild as the Taliban
9 in my right
45 in my other hand.
(who i'm is?)
Call me trouble man
always in trouble man
worth a couple hundred grand
chevys, all colors man

This is one of our hits? Rubber Band Man? Lord

The video in cause you don't know it is just him flick his rist with a rubber band which seems to cause him to go from a poor house to in a factory with woman shaking their ass. Apparently his rubber bands make them want to shake their ass.

Who am I? Rubber Band Man? Good lord how stupid.... I had always been proud that black people never had a Macarena moment, maybe this is it?

Sad

I think I am going to be Jewish from now on. Since I am apparently half-white anyway, I have decided to be that half today

Happy Passover

Black People All Look the Same

I don’t know why Black men all have to dress the same in this city (DC) (although really monotony of style and thought is not exclusive to Black people) You have the skin color your already in the club… We know your are black to I can see it, you don’t have to all wear Tims, a black jacket with all the basketball teams on it (I sure as hell am not fan of every team why are you), and a doorag.

Are Black people more easily brainwashed? I don’t think so, I just thing we get a more monolith culture. You see this with most sections of society. It just bothers me more cause I am Black.
